Se trata de un modelo fundacional de <strong>c\u00f3digo abierto<\/strong> cuya finalidad es analizar datos y predecir tormentas solares que puedan afectar a distintos tipos de equipamiento, desde sat\u00e9lites y sistemas de comunicaci\u00f3n hasta las redes el\u00e9ctricas que se extienden por todo nuestro planeta.<\/p>\n<p>La agencia espacial estadounidense explic\u00f3 que Surya <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/science-research\/artificial-intelligence-model-heliophysics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">se ha entrenado<\/a> usando una base de datos con 9 a\u00f1os de informaci\u00f3n recopilada por el <strong>Solar Dynamics Observatory<\/strong> (SDO), un telescopio espacial que se lanz\u00f3 en 2010. Y los primeros resultados que se han obtenido con esta tecnolog\u00eda son bastante prometedores.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abLa fortaleza de Surya reside en su arquitectura de modelo fundacional, que aprende directamente de los datos solares sin procesar. A diferencia de los sistemas de IA tradicionales, que requieren un etiquetado exhaustivo, Surya se adapta r\u00e1pidamente a nuevas tareas y aplicaciones. Entre estas se incluyen el seguimiento de regiones activas, la predicci\u00f3n de la actividad de erupciones solares, la predicci\u00f3n de la velocidad del viento solar y la integraci\u00f3n de datos de otros observatorios [&#8230;]\u00bb, explicaron desde la NASA.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan IBM, en los pr\u00f3ximos 5 a\u00f1os la econom\u00eda global <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ibm.com\/2025-08-20-ibm-and-nasa-release-groundbreaking-open-source-ai-model-on-hugging-face-to-predict-solar-weather-and-help-protect-critical-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">podr\u00eda sufrir p\u00e9rdidas<\/a> por 17.000 millones de d\u00f3lares solamente por los efectos de futuras tormentas solares. Es por ello que la alianza con NASA para el desarrollo de Surya es de vital importancia para tratar de mitigar el impacto de hipot\u00e9ticos <a Foto: NASA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>La NASA comenta que Surya puede generar predicciones visuales de erupciones solares <strong>con dos horas de anticipaci\u00f3n<\/strong>. Estos an\u00e1lisis y proyecciones son cruciales para brindar m\u00e1s herramientas a los principales sectores impactados por las tormentas solares. Por ejemplo, para que los cient\u00edficos cuenten con m\u00e1s recursos para estudiar el impacto de los eventos sobre la Tierra, y para que los operadores de sat\u00e9lites puedan tomar acciones que apacig\u00fcen los efectos sobre sus equipos en \u00f3rbita.<\/p>\n<p>En las pruebas que realizaron los desarrolladores de esta inteligencia artificial de c\u00f3digo abierto se determin\u00f3 que sus resultados superaban en un 16 % los<em> benchmarks<\/em> ya existentes. Foto: NASA.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>La arquitectura y metodolog\u00eda que se ha implementado <strong>se puede adaptar a otros \u00e1mbitos cient\u00edficos<\/strong>, sostienen sus responsables. \u00abDesde la ciencia planetaria hasta la observaci\u00f3n de la Tierra, el proyecto establece la infraestructura b\u00e1sica para esfuerzos de IA similares en diversos dominios\u00bb, a\u00f1ade la NASA.<\/p>\n<p>Surya es un modelo de lenguaje de <strong>366 millones de par\u00e1metros<\/strong> que se ha entrenado usando im\u00e1genes de resoluci\u00f3n completa capturadas por el Solar Dynamics Observatory.
